Tiger Swimming Sinks Salukis

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Hitting the pool for the first time in over two weeks, the Missouri women's swimming and diving team didn't take long to shake of the rust against Southern Illinois-Carbondale, winning big on the day to defeat SIU 153-80 Saturday afternoon at the Mizzou Aquatics Center.

The women's 400 medley relay team took swept all three top spots to kick off the meet against SIU. The group of Dominique Bouchard, Rachel Ripley, Colleen Gordon and Catlin Connor finished first, clocking in at 3:50.67. All three relay groups for the Tigers placed, in the top three with the "A" group finishing second and "C" group finishing third.

Alternating dives with the men, Jordan Morcom and Sharon Finn took the top two spots in the women's 3-meter dive. Morcom finished first with 286.13 points and Sharon Finn took second with 272.85 points.

The two teams switched platforms, but the result was almost similar, with Morcom taking the women's 1-meter dive. Morcom won with 263.40 points.

Colleen Gordon finished only .04 seconds ahead of teammate Lisa Nathanson in the 200 free, as Gordon finished first in 1:51.44, with Nathanson finishing second in 1:51.48.

Nathanson would earn her first win on the day later in the meet, taking the title in the 100 free, clocking in at 50.62 seconds, just ahead of Cunningham who finished second in 51.45 seconds.

The second sweep for the Tiger women came in the 50 free, as Cassie Cunningham, Frances Szostak and Rachel Ripley took all three top spots. Cunningham finished in 23.85 seconds, Szostak in 24.36 seconds and Ripley in 24.69 seconds

The strongest showing on the day for the women's team came in the 200 IM, as the Tigers took the top four spots in the event, led by Lauren Lavigna who finished first in 2:06.61. Bouchard, Anastasia Sotiropoulos and Kayla Durnil finished in round out the next three spots. Shnaider earned his first individual title of the day in addition to the relay team win, finishing first in 1:52.93.

Lavigna took another title, this time in the 500 free, clocking in with a time of 4:57.62, followed by Gordon who came in second with a time of 4:57.95.

After finishing among the top swimmers in events earlier in the day, Bouchard earned her first title of the day in strong fashion in the 200 back, ahead of teammate Szostak who finished second. Bouchard touched the board in 1:59.35, while Szostak finished in 2:04.66.

Kim Jasmer finished in second place in the women's 1000 free, clocking in behind SIU's Kirsten Groome in 10:03.85. Stephanie Rovig finished in third, touching the board in 10:22.22.

SIU's Groom got the best of another Mizzou swimmer on the day, just besting Melissa Jamerson in the 200 fly by .39 seconds, as Jamerson finished in 1:55.31. Sotiropoulos came in third with a time of 2:07.42.

The Tigers will be back in action beginning Dec. 4 for the start of the Mizzou Invite.
