TODAY'S DIME (Friday, Feb. 10): We're going over defending Vanderbilt’s offensive sets, especially defending the three-point line with high hands and not fouling. Vanderbilt is also the best free throw-shooting team in the SEC, making 74.9 percent as a group.
Interestingly enough, Vanderbilt has been better on the road in SEC play than at home. They are 4-2 on the road, with a win over Florida, and just 1-4 at home, which is very surprising.
If you have never been to their arena, Memorial Gymnasium; it is quite unique. The team benches are at the end of the court rather than on the sides, the floor is raised like a stage, and quite frankly, the arena looks more comfortable hosting a production of The Phantom of the Opera than an SEC basketball game! Since the Commodores practice there all the time, you would think Vanderbilt would have a big advantage playing at home. But, anyway... game day tomorrow!
