Tutorial Assistance
The Total Person Program employs over 100 tutors, comprised of professionals, teaching assistants, graduate students, and students from our honors college.
Mentoring
In addition to tutorial assistance, the Total Person Program has implemented a mentoring program. This program is designed to provide student-athletes with individual instruction on a weekly basis. Student-athletes meet with their assigned mentor weekly to plan, organize and prepare for their semester. The mentors assist the student-athletes in becoming proactive learners and encourage them to reach all their academic goals. This relationship provides the student-athletes with support and the opportunity to share their challenges and successes.
Progress Monitoring
Academic monitoring entails ensuring that the student-athletes are making progress towards a degree as specified by the NCAA and SEC conference, checking on class and study hall attendance, as well as closely monitoring their successful class participation. Our faculty report grades twice per semester to staff members to help avoid potential problems early and correct them.
Enhanced Learning Program
The mission of the Enhanced Learning Program (ELP) is to provide educational support to student-athletes who have a documented learning disability and/or ADHD. We collaborate with campus resources, professors and instructors to support the academic success of each student-athlete. All services that we provide are adapted to meet the individual needs of each student-athlete.
Study Skills Development
A comprehensive student-athlete orientation ensures that freshmen begin their first semester with confidence. To enrich the freshman year, the Total Person Program teaches a section of SSC1150 geared specifically toward student-athletes which focuses on time management skills, textbook reading, course organization, note taking, instructor relations, writing papers, memory enhancement techniques and life skills.
