CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Missouri track and field capped off day one of the Virginia Challenge on Lannigan Field on Friday.
The day was highlighted by Alicia Burnett and Drew Rogers, both claiming school records.
In the 100m, Burnett started off the day with 11.27 and 11.23 times in the prelims and finals respectively. Her time in the finals broke a 38-year-old school record and the Virginia Challenge meet record, taking first in the event. On the men's side, Rogers ran a 13:41.63 in the 5000m invitational, taking fourth place in the event and setting a second school record on the day.
Three additional Tigers joined Burnett and Rogers in the record books on the meet's opening day. Steven Marks now stands seventh in Mizzou history in the 100m, running 10.27 in the finals and earning a third-place finish. Elijah Limo marked a time of 8:53.23 in the 3000m steeplechase, a first-place finish, locking the freshman in at eighth all-time in school history. Freshman Monica Wanjiku earned a second-place finish with a time of 15:40.79 on the 5000m invite, which places her second in program history.
Overall, the Tigers earned five podium finishes in track events on day one from Burnett, Marks, Limo and Wanjiku coupled with a third-place finish from Joshua Allison, who ran 8:57.17 in the 3000m steeplechase.
The Tigers saw a second and third place finish in the men's and women's hammer throw. Sam Innes earned his third-place spot with a throw of 67.40m (221-1), while Petra Gombas claimed second place with a result of 57.17m (187-6).

The Tigers return on Saturday morning for the final day of the Virginia Challenge, with action set to resume at 9 a.m. with the men's javelin throw.
