No. 7 Wrestling Continues Road Trip With Stop At No. 11 South Dakota State Sunday

BROOKINGS, S.D. - No. 7-ranked Missouri wrestling continues its road trip, taking on No. 11 South Dakota State on Sunday, Feb. 18. The action is set to begin at 2 p.m. CT and can be watched on FloWrestling. 

LAST TIME OUT 

  • Missouri got back on track with a dominant win at North Dakota State, 32-6, Feb. 16. 
  • The Tigers totaled five bonus-point wins in the match, notching the sixth time this season the team totaled five or more in a dual. 
  • Topping NDSU by 26 (32-6) in team points marked the fifth time the Tigers have defeated an opponent by that margin or more this season.

ALL-TIME VS. SOUTH DAKOTA STATE 

  • The matchup between Mizzou and South Dakota State will mark the eighth meeting between the programs. 
  • The Tigers lead the Jackrabbits 4-3-0 but SDSU took the last meeting, 21-12, on Jan. 22, 2022. 

LAST TIME VS. THE JACKRABBITS

  • In the last dual between the teams, South Dakota State rallied to win the last five matchups to secure a 21-12 win.
  • Noah Surtin (125), Allan Hart (141), Josh Edmond (149) and Jarrett Jacques (159) all earned decision victories in the dual.

KEEGAN'S KITCHEN

  • Junior Keegan O'Toole is cooking this season, having defeated three top-10 opponents in consecutive matches, Jan. 26-Feb. 4, in Peyton Hall (WVU), Julian Ramirez (CU) and Izzak Olejnik (OSU).  
  • Most recently, the junior collected his sixth fall of the season over Brendan Howes of North Dakota State on Feb. 16. 
  • O'Toole holds a 15-0 record with 12 bonus-point wins.  

DEPENDABLE DOMINANCE  

  • Leading the team in wins with a 19-0 record this season, redshirt senior Zach Elam is taking advantage of his last year in Black and Gold. 
  • Elam was tabbed fifth on the most recent NCAA's Most Dominant Wrestler rankings, averaging 4.5 team points per match this season with a minimum of 16 matches wrestled. 
  • Of the senior's 19 wins, 10 have been bonus-point victories: seven falls and three technical falls. 
  • The seven pins from the Kansas City native leads the team and marks a single-season high, besting the six he earned his freshman season (2018-19). 

STAND UP STANFIELD  

  • Freshman Drew Stanfield made his Tiger Style debut in a dual at NDSU, getting the nod at 133 pounds and earning the 12-5 win over Fernando Barreto.

MILESTONE MAULLER

  • Redshirt senior Brock Mauller has totaled 114 career wins at Mizzou and is tied for 14th all-time in program history with Joey Lavallee.  
  • The Columbia, Missouri native needs three wins to pass Nick Marable (116). Mauller can move into the top 10 all-time with six more victories (120). 

COACHES RANKINGS

  • In the second NCAA coaches rankings of the season, Missouri saw nine wrestlers ranked, with five in the top 10.  
  • Cracking the top 10 of their respective weight classes: Noah Surtin (7th, 125), Keegan O'Toole (1st, 165), Peyton Mocco (10th, 174), Rocky Elam (8th, 197) and Zach Elam (4th, 285). 
  • Following behind those five are Brock Mauller (11th, 157), Clayton Whiting (13th, 184), Josh Edmond (22nd, 141) and Kade Moore (23rd, 133). 
  • Coaches' rankings are determined by 14 coaches in each weight class, with two head coaches from each of the seven conferences. Only wrestlers designated as a starter at a respective weight class may be considered. Wrestlers must have eight Division I matches in the weight class, with at least one within the last 30 days.
