OXFORD, Miss. – University of Missouri track and field concluded the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships with gold and bronze medals on Saturday. The men's squad finished ninth while the women's squad finished tied for 12th (27 points). The men's finish and point total (38) are the highest since 2016.
Mitch Weber won the conference title in the discus with a season best toss of 197-10 / 60.30m. He is Mizzou's first-ever SEC men's discus winner. His throw is currently No. 7 in the NCAA West Prelim and No. 12 nationally.
Rece Rowan was fifth in the discus. He tossed a personal best of 186-3 / 56.77m. He now sits at No. 9 on the top-10 performers list and tied for No. 21 in the NCAA West Prelim top 48.
Georgi Nachev earned a bronze medal in the triple jump. His mark of 53-1.75 / 16.20m is a season best, No. 4 in the NCAA West prelim and tied for ninth nationally. Roberto Vilches finished fourth in today's event, clearing 7-1.75 / 2.18m. The height is a season best, tied for ninth in the NCAA West Prelim and tied for 13th nationally.
Mara Häusler (43-8.5 / 13.32m), Arianna Fisher (43-7.25 / 13.29m), Mirieli Santos (43-4.5 / 13.22m), Euphenie Andre (42-3.5 / 12.89) put together a 4-5-6-7 finish in the triple jump, scoring 14 points for the Tigers. Haeusler and Santos both recorded season bests and move to the top 48 for the NCAA West Prelim. Andre's leap is a personal best and moves her into the NCAA West Prelim top 48, as well.
In the 1,500m final, Martin Prodanov was fourth (3:40.42) and Davis Helmerich was eighth (3:46.31). Christopher Conrad finished seventh in the 800m (1:47.71). The 4x100m relay of La'Rue Martin, Isaiah Vigliano, Blake Hays, Jayson Ashford finished fifth with a time of 41.14.
Student-athletes who rank among the top 48 in their respective events earn a berth into the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds (May 25-28; Fayetteville, Ark.). In addition, the best 24 relays times advance to the NCAA preliminaries. Student-athletes with the top 12 times/marks and the best 12 relay teams at both the East and West Preliminary Rounds sites will qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.
