COLUMBIA, Mo. – As selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), senior running back Tyler Badie was named a first-team Academic All-American this week. The Academic All-America Team honors outstanding academic and athletic achievement by student-athletes throughout the landscape of college sports since 1952.
Badie is the 21st Mizzou student-athlete to earn Academic All-America and the first on the first team since 2007 (Adam Crossett, punter). Former Tiger linebacker Nick Bolton earned a second-team nod in 2021. He is also one of five Southeastern Conference student-athletes on the first team.
The New Orleans, La. native is also the first Missouri student-athlete to earn SEC Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors. Badie earned his bachelor's degree in sport management earlier this year with a 3.83 grade point average. He is in his first semester as a graduate student, pursuing a master's in athletic administration and positive coaching. A two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, he was a 2021 AFCA Good Works Team, Wuerffel Trophy and Campbell Trophy nominee.
Badie has rewritten Mizzou's record book this season, setting a new school record for single-season rushing yards (1,604). His final rushing touchdown of the regular season was his 14th and the 23rd of his career – good for ninth on Mizzou's single season and career top-10 lists.
Earlier this week Badie (third team), center Michael Maietti (honorable mention) and kicker Harrison Mevis (second team) were also recognized on Phil Steele's All-America Teams. All three were also named Phil Steele First-Team All-SEC along with junior offensive lineman Javon Foster (fourth team).
Mizzou football will face Army West Point in the 2021 Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas. Kickoff is set for Dec. 22 (7 p.m. kick, ESPN) at TCU's Amon G. Carter Stadium.
