COLUMBIA, Mo. – @MizzouSoccer heads to Boulder, Colorado, this weekend to face Colorado at Prentup field. The game is set to kick off at 2 p.m. CT, and can be viewed on the Pac-12 Networks.

The Tigers are coming off of their first road trip of the season, which included games at Iowa and at Iowa State. The Tigers drew against the Hawkeyes, but they were able to capture their first win of the season over Iowa State in a 2-1 2 OT thriller on a late own goal.

TALKING POINTS

  • Both of the Tigers games went to double OT. It was the first time the Tigers had played back-to-back 2 OT games since the end of the 2016 season, when they lost to Florida (3-3, 7-8 PKs) in the SEC Tournament and lost to Kansas (1-0) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
  • The only goal scored by the Tigers during their opening weekend was by freshman Skye Kingsley (Naperville, Ill.), who took a beautiful cross from fellow freshman Blythe Beldner (Wildwood, Mo.) and headed it into the back of the net.
  • Kingsley became the second freshman in a row to score the first goal of the season for Mizzou, as sophomore Macy Trujillo (Kansas City, Mo.) scored the first goal of 2017 as a freshman a season ago. Before that, the feat had not been accomplished since 2012.
  • Though she won't be credited with a second career assist, Beldner played the ball into the box that led to the own goal winner against Iowa State. Her assist on the Kingsley goal was the first assist of her career.
  • Mizzou played two goalkeepers over the weekend, and both performed well.
  • Redshirt sophomore Mercedes Sapp (Windermere, Fla.) registered the first start of her career, posting 7 saves on her way to a 2 OT clean sheet against Iowa in the season opener.
  • Senior goalkeeper Kelsey Dossey (Plainfield, Ind.), meanwhile, got the start against Iowa State, and posted eight saves in a dominant performance. She allowed one goal.
  • Dossey and Sapp, with eight and seven saves, respectively, rank first and second in the SEC in saves-per-game.
  • The junior defensive duo of Anna Frick (Webster Groves, Mo.) and Peyton Joseph (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) have been workhorses for the Tigers, as they played every minute of both overtime contests.
  • The two each played 214 minutes over the two game span. Midfielder Madison Lewis (Zionsville, Ind.) and midfielder/defender Cassidy Nurnberger (New Haven, Mo.) have also both logged over 190 minutes.

LOOKING AT THE OPPONENT… COLORADO

  • Mizzou owns a 14-6-1 record over Colorado. In their last matchup in 2016, Mizzou captured a 2-1 win in overtime in Columbia, Mo.
  • Mizzou has a 4-3 advantage over Colorado on the Buffaloes' home field.
  • The Buffaloes went 12-6-4 in the 2017 season with 31 goals and 13.3 shots per game.
  • Returning sophomore forward Marty Puketapu led the Buffaloes with eight goals. Senior Megan Massey led the Buffs with six assists in 2017.
  • The Tigers and Buffaloes will face off with the same 1-0-1 record.
  • In their win over the Air Force Academy, the Buffaloes scored two of their three goals in the second period.
  • CU goalkeepers Jalen Tompkins and Scout Watson have split their time between the goal posts, tallying 10 saves and allowing zero goals.
