Senior diver Clark Thomas earned runner-up honors on 1-meter with a new school record score

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Mizzou swimming and diving teams notched two top-three finishes, including a school record and second-place showing from senior diver Clark Thomas, during day two action at the 2016 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships Wednesday at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. Junior Michael Chadwick added a podium finish after taking third in the men's 50 free.

Both the Mizzou men's and women's teams sit fifth after the second day of competition, the men with 312 points and the women with 244.5 points.

The Florida men lead the way with 504 points, followed by Auburn (497), Georgia (362) and Alabama (361). On the women's side, Tennessee sits atop the standings with 437.5 points, while Georgia is second (430), Texas A&M third (412.5) and Florida in fourth (274).

Thomas set a new Mizzou mark and notched the second runner-up showing at an SEC Championships of his career with a second-place finish in the 1-meter finals. His night tally of 429.04 broke the Tigers' 1-meter record of 416.05 set by David Bonuchi in 2012. Thomas also placed second on 3-meter at last year's SEC Championships.

Margritier placed 19th overall in 19.88, while Aragona notched a personal best 19.97 to finish 21st.

Junior Katharine Ross notched a pair of personal bests on the day en route to a seventh-place finish in the women's 200 IM. She dropped a 1:56.60 in finals, only 0.3 off Mizzou's school record and good enough for second all-time in program history, after a swim of 1:56.93 in the morning. Junior Nadine Laemmler finished 16th in the event with a personal best time of 1:58.29 in prelims.

In the women's 50 free, senior Anna Patterson tied for ninth with a then-season best 22.43. Freshman Maddie Gehrke won the C final after a swim of 22.55, which was good enough to move her into fifth-place all-time at Mizzou in the event, while sophomore Hannah Stevens was took second in the C final (22.82) and Rachel Hayden fifth (23.04).

Mizzou went one-three-five in the men's 200 IM C final, led by senior Daniel Graviss. The senior clocked a personal best 1:45.64 to jump into fifth all-time at Mizzou in the event, while freshman Alex Walton was third in the heat (19th overall) after a career best 1:46.61.
