No. 16 @MizzouGym Tallies 195.825 at Metroplex Challenge

The Tigers scored a 49 or higher on three of four events

FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 16 Mizzou gymnastics team scores a 195.825 to place fifth at the Metroplex Challenge Saturday night in Fort Worth, Texas. No. 2 Oklahoma won the event with a 197.550, ahead of No. 6 LSU (196.750), Washington (196.175) and No. 12 Stanford (196.075).  

The Tigers compiled 13 scores of 9.8 or higher on the night, including three from freshman Brooke Kelly (Birmingham, Ala.).

Despite two career highs and another season best, the Tigers notched a 48.575 on beam in the first rotation. Kelly led the way with her career best 9.875, while freshman Britney Ward (Ozark, Mo.) scored a 9.850 and sophomore Tia Allbritten (Garland, Texas) and freshman Allison Bower each tallied 9.800s. Bower's score matched her personal best and Allbritten's was a season high.

Mizzou scored a 49.075 on floor for the second consecutive week, led by a 9.850 from sophomore Kennedi Harris (Atlanta, Ga.). Freshman Morgan Porter (Overland, Mo.) tallied a 9.825 for the fourth straight week, while junior Angie Kern (Columbia, Mo.) also had a 9.825 for the second week in a row. Kelly added a 9.800 and freshmen Allison Bower (Mesa, Ariz.) and Michaelee Turner (Parkville, Mo.) had 9.775s.

In the third rotation, the Tigers went 49.025 to tie the team's 2015 high. Harris again paced the squad on the event, as she matched her personal best with a 9.875. Kern scored a season high 9.825 on the event, while freshmen Xarria Lewis (Columbia, Mo.) and Porter notched 9.775s.

The squad closed the meet with a 49.150 on bars in the final rotation, a score that stands as the second highest for the Tigers this season. Porter rocked her routine with a career best 9.900, which is a high for the team in 2015. Sophomore Becca Schugel (Eagan, Minn.) notched 9.850 to tie her personal best, while Kelly also tallied a 9.850. Additionally, sophomore Shauna Miller (Knoxville, Tenn.) had a season high 9.800.

Mizzou returns home to the Hearnes Center on Friday, Feb. 5 as the team hosts Lindenwood and Southeast Missouri State in the State of Missouri Meet at 7 p.m.
