EUGENE, Ore. - Seniors Kearsten Peoples, Jill Rushin, and Katrine Haarklau closed out their stellar Tiger careers on Thursday (June 11) at the NCAA Championships at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., earning their final All-American honors in the black and gold. Peoples and Rushin both found themselves back on the podium, finishing in the top eight of their respective fields, while Haarklau earned a Second Team finish after placing tenth.
Peoples was first up, taking the ring in the hammer throw at the NCAA Championships for the first time since her freshman year. Already an eight-time All-American in the indoor and outdoor shot put, discus, and weight throw, Peoples now adds the hammer to her resume after she closed the competition in eighth overall with her top mark of 62.31m (204-5).
Rushin also saw a first in her final meet as a Tiger, finishing in the top eight of the shot put field for the first time at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. She entered the week with two indoor All-American honors under her belt for the shot put, including a fifth-place finish this year.
Haarklau rounded out the day's events with her performance in the pole vault. The two-time All-American in the pole vault closed the day tenth overall with a top bar of 4.20m (13-9.25), earning a Second Team All-American honor.
Peoples, Rushin, and Haarklau have made quite the impact in the Mizzou record books throughout their careers, earning a total of seven school records, eight All-Time Top Ten spots, 16 All-American honors, and one NCAA title.
LOOKING FORWARD...
Freshman John Warren will be the final Tiger to compete this week as he makes his NCAA Championship debut on Friday in the men's triple jump, starting at 4:30 p.m. PT. Warren, who placed ninth at the West Preliminary Round, currently holds the fifth-best mark in Mizzou history at 15.75m (51-8.25).
THE MEET
For the first time, the four-day NCAA Championship meet will be divided by gender, with the men competing on Wednesday and Friday, and the women on Thursday and Saturday. Live TV coverage of the meet will be aired on ESPN and ESPNU, and there will be a live feed available online on ESPN3 and WatchESPN.
