COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Mizzou men's and women's swimming and diving programs went a perfect 5-0 in action against Kentucky, Northwestern and Southern Illinois after day two action on Saturday, Nov. 7 at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. The men defeated Southeastern Conference foe Kentucky (193.5-144.5), SIU (228-110) and Northwestern (233-105), while the women were victorious over Kentucky (214-124) and SIU (224-114).
The Tigers combined to win 23 events during the two day meet, led by four from junior Michael Chadwick. After wins in the 200 IM and 100 free on Friday, Chadwick placed first in the 50 free and 200 free Saturday. The junior clocked a 19.87 in the 50 free to finish ahead of senior Matthew Margritier (20.46), and a 1:37.72 in the 200 free.
In the diving well, senior Clark Thomas added the 3-meter victory to his win on 1-meter yesterday. He tallied a season best score of 377.55 to place first on 3-meter Saturday.
Saturday action started with a 200 medley relay sweep for the Tigers. On the women's side, the quartet of junior Nadine Laemmler, freshman Maddie Gehrke and seniors Abby Duncan and Anna Patterson posted a time of 1:41.58 for first, while the men's team of junior Carter Griffin, juniors Fabian Schwingenschlogl and Andrew Sansoucie and senior Matthew Margritier touched the wall in 1:29.41.
In the women's 50 free, Gehrke earned a first-place finish after a swim of 23.80, just ahead of Patterson in second (23.84) and sophomore Rachel Hayden in third (23.85).
The Tigers went one-two in the women's 100 back, led by sophomore Hannah Stevens and Laemmler. Stevens proved victorious in a time of 54.78, while Laemmler took second after touching in 55.02.
Schwingenschlogl added a win in the 200 breast on Saturday to his first-place finish in the 100 a day ago. The junior clocked a 2:00.00 for the win, ahead of sophomore Jordy Groters in third (2:04.37) and junior Eddie Mapel in fourth (2:05.50).
On the women's side, Duncan claimed top honors after a swim of 2:12.48, while junior Katharine Ross was second in 2:15.83.
Hayden completed a 100-200 free sweep Saturday with a first-place finish in the 200 in a time of 1:51.30. Sophomore Kira Zubar took third in 1:51.53 and freshman Aurore Jacolin was fourth in 1:52.86.
Mizzou's final winner of the day was junior Andrew Sansoucie, who clocked a season best time of 48.65 in the 100 fly.
The Tiger men's and women's relay teams competed in exhibition in the 400 free relay. The men's squad of freshman Mikel Schreuders, Margritier, Groters and Chadwick finished in 2:58.94 and the women's team of Patterson, Hayden, Stevens and Brady went 3:26.98, times that would have placed first.
Missouri is idle for two weeks until they travel to compete in the three-day Tennessee Invite. The meet begins Friday, Nov. 20 and runs through Sunday, Nov. 22, with prelims and finals each day.
