Mizzou falls to 2-2 on the season.

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou volleyball dropped a tight contest, 3-1 (21-25, 25-20, 20-25, 23-25), to Lipscomb to open the 2014 Tiger Invitational. The Tigers fall to 2-2 on the season and 35-4 all-time at the Tiger Invite. Sophomore Carly Kan (Honolulu, Hawaii) posted her second straight double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs to lead the Tigers. Senior Emily Wilson (Omaha, Neb.) added 11 kills. Regan Peltier (Nixa, Mo.) also added seven on .545 hitting in the loss as well.

"I thought Lipscomb won the match in set three," head coach Wayne Kreklow said. "We won set two and then took a lead early in set three but allowed them to go on a run and that was the match. Now we need to re-focus and get ready to play a very good Illinois State team tonight."

Sophomore Emily Thater (Springfield, Mo.) and senior libero Sarah Meister (San Diego, Calif.) anchored Mizzou defensively. Thater tallied six blocks, giving her 14 total in the last two matches. Meister recorded a team-high 18 digs to follow up her season-high performance against North Texas. The senior libero moved to eighth all-time on Mizzou's career digs list with 1,100.

The first set was a back-and-forth battle. Following a Meister ace that knotted the score at 7-7, Lipscomb built a 10-7 lead. The Bison maintained their advantage and held an 18-14 lead before Mizzou put together a 5-0 run to push back in front. A late rally from Lipscomb gave the Bison the 25-21 set win.

The Tigers answered swiftly in the second set, surging to a 9-1 lead. Two kills from Thater and Regan Peltier (Nixa, Mo.) set the tone early and Mizzou never looked back, hitting .312 as a team to take the set 25-20. Peltier finished with seven kills in the match.

Lipscomb seized back the momentum midway through the third set. With Mizzou holding onto an 11-8 lead, the Bison went on an 8-0 run to establish a five-point cushion. Another Kan kill eventually cut the Tigers' deficit to three, but Lipscomb responded with two kills to secure the 25-20 set victory.

The see-saw affair continued in the fourth set. Twice, the Tigers were down four points and managed to close the gap. Lipscomb led 24-20, but Mizzou saved four match points with three consecutive kills that finished off furious rallies. A service error gave the Bison the 25-23 set win to claim the match. The Tigers hit .357 in the final frame.

Mizzou is back in action tonight at 6:30 p.m. when the Tigers face Illinois State. For all the latest on Mizzou volleyball, stay tuned to MUTigers.com and follow the team on twitter @MizzouVB.
