Columbia, Mo. - The second day of full pads practice took place Saturday morning on Faurot Field for the Missouri Tiger Football team, and just like the first one, it was a very competitive practice which went down to the wire for the daily battle of the black jerseys.

Just like Friday, the competition between the Tiger offense and defense wasn't decided until the final period, and as they did Friday, the defense pulled out the win on the final play.  For the second straight day, sophomore LB Michael Scherer made the stop which preserved the win for the defense, when he wrapped up TB Tyler Hunt for little gain on a 3^rd down carry with the competition in the balance.

Here were some random highlights from today's workout, which went for nearly 2 ½ hours...

• For the final period, with the score tied at 2-apiece between the offense and defense, the #2 offense went up against the #1 defense first from their own 34 yardline.  TB Miles Drummond was stopped for a short gain by the tandem of DE Markus Golden and Scherer.  Scherer also came through the line a couple of snaps later to stop TB Trevon Walters for a loss.  QB Eddie Printz found TE Clayton Echard for a couple of completions, with the first going for about 10 yards and a first down, with the other one picking up five yards over the middle...
• Next up, the #1 offense and #2 defense squared off.  An incompletion started the series, but QB Maty Mauk rebounded to find TB Russell Hansbrough out of the backfield for a five-yard completion, followed by a Mauk scramble that gained around 10 yards.  On the last play, Hansbrough carried for a gain of around four yards before he was thudded by DL Evan Winston...
• The last series saw the #1 offense and #1 defense do battle with the offense holding a two-point lead.  It was all defense on this short series, as DE Shane Ray made a great play in space to bring down TB Marcus Murphy for a loss in the flat.  DT Lucas Vincent batted the next pass down at the line of scrimmage, and with the score tied, Scherer's aforementioned run fit to stuff the final play gave the defense the win...
• Earlier in the day, QB Corbin Berkstresser and WR J'Mon Moore connected on a well-executed timing route to gain 12 yards on a 3^rd and 8 snap as the offense was working on clock situations.  DE Charles Harris had a physical tackle for loss a couple of snaps later against Walters, but Walters would find some daylight later on as he got free for a pair of gains of over eight yards.  DL Rickey Hatley notched a QB sack of Printz to end one series...

The Tigers will hold a closed practice Sunday morning in full pads, and then move to Faurot Field where they'll have photo day, which all leads up to the 12^th annual Fan Appreciation Day.  Gates open at the stadium at approximately 3:45 p.m., so be sure to come out and meet the 2014 Mizzou Tigers!  Admission is free to this event.
