Mizzou Advances Three to Saturday A Finals

ATHENS, Ga. - The Mizzou men's and women's swimming teams advanced three Tigers to Saturday night's championship finals during final day preliminary competition at the 2014 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships in Athens, Ga. The Tigers also saw five move on to B finals and four into C finals.

Senior Anna Patterson started Missouri off strong in the 100 free. She clocked a personal best time of 48.29 to earn a spot in the championship final. Patterson's time also moved the sophomore into second all-time at Mizzou in the event.

In the men's 200 back, freshman Carter Griffin advanced to his first-ever championship final after a swim of 1:43.22 in preliminaries. Additionally, junior Austin Fish notched a time of 1:45.22 for a spot in the C final.

Junior Igor Kozlovskij became Mizzou's third championship final qualifier of the day in the 200 breast after a 1:56.61. Junior Sam Tierney missed the A final by just 0.02 after he took ninth in prelims after a swim of 1:57.50. Two other Tigers will join Tierney in the B final: sophomore Michal Rokita (1:58.68) and freshman Eddie Mapel (1:59.11), who both posted person bests in the morning.

In the men's 100 free, freshman Michael Chadwick placed 13th after touching in a person best 43.47 to make the consolation final. Chadwick's time also moved him into second all-time at Mizzou in the event. Also notching personal bests in the event were freshmen Keiser Witte (44.22) and Andrew Sansoucie (44.73).

Swimming in the women's 200 breast, freshman Katharine Ross advanced to her second B final of the Championships after a swim of 2:12.85. Sophomore Lauren Stoeckle (2:14.93) and junior Danielle Spradlin (2:15.50) placed 23rd and 24th, respectively, to make the C final.

Sophomore Madison Bridges earned a spot in the 200 back C final with a career best 1:56.62.

Competition at the SEC Championships concludes Saturday at 6 p.m. ET.
