The Mizzou men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept Missouri State in a dual meet Friday at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. The women's team won 12 of 13 events on its way to a 200-43 victory and the men's squad prevailed 189-54.
Junior Lauren Reedy highlighted the Tigers' big day by shattering her own school record in the 1-meter diving competition with 352.43 points. Reedy also claimed first in the 3-meter dive, trailed closely by freshman Alexa Beckwith, who posted 331.57 points to move up to sixth all-time in Mizzou history.
After the Mizzou women's team started the afternoon winning the 400 medley relay, freshman Kira Zubar secured her first of two event victories on the day in the 1000 free with a 10:15.29. Zubar also added a win in the 500 free later in the meet, clocking a 5:00.79.
Fellow freshman Hannah Stevens also recorded two event wins during the meet. Stevens swam a season-best 1:58.23 en route to claiming first in the 200 back. That time ranks 21st in the NCAA so far this year. Additionally, the Lexington, Ohio, native won the 200 free with a 1:51.14
Junior Abby Duncan finished first in the 200 breast, swimming a 2:12.92. That time is the seventh fastest in the NCAA in 2014-15.
Dani Barbiea (100 free), Rachel Hayden (23.37), Sharli Brady (400 IM) and Erin Metzger-Seymour (200 fly) each grabbed event wins of their own to round out the women's team's dominant performance.
The Mizzou men's team bookended its win with victories in both the 400 medley relay and 400 free relay.
Senior Eegan Groome and sophomore Michael Chadwick led the way for the men with two event wins each. Chadwick swam a 1:38.26 to claim the 200 free and secure the 15th best time in the NCAA this season. He followed it up by edging Missouri State's Uvis Kalnins to win the 100 free in 44.76. Groome swept the distance events, clinching first in both the 500 free (4:33.66) and 1000 free (9:23.41).
In the 50 free, redshirt junior Matthew Margritier clocked a 20.21 to claim first. Margritier owns the 16th fastest time in the nation this season. Seniors Sam Tierney and Mack Darragh also got wins in the 200 breast and 200 fly, respectively.
Lastly, in the diving well, junior Clark Thomas swept both the 1-meter (381.90) and 3-meter (423.30) competitions.
The Mizzou women's team improves to 2-0 in dual meets this season while the men's squad recorded its first dual victory of 2014-15. Both teams will head to Lexington, Ky., next weekend to face Kentucky, Southern Illinois and Northwestern. The two-day meet will start at 6 p.m. Nov. 7.
