Bonuchi Takes 10th at FINA World Championships

BARCELONA, Spain - Mizzou's David Bonuchi and diving partner Toby Stanley placed 10th on the 10-meter (platform) synchro at the 2013 FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Spain on Sunday, July 21. The duo took ninth in preliminaries to earn a spot in the finals session, where they finished 10th overall.

Universal Sports will televise the 10-meter synchro finals on tape delay on 6 p.m. CT today (July 21).

Columbia, Mo., native Bonuchi and Stanley scored 372.84 points in the finals to earn the 10th-place finish. They started off slow in finals with responded with dives of 72.00, 71.10, 61.38 and 72.36 in their final four dives. Bonuchi and Stanley posted a 360.75 in prelims, including a high score of 75.60 in their sixth and final dive. Scores did not carry over to the finals.

Bonuchi qualified for the World Championships with a first-place finish on the 10-meter synchro at May's USA Diving World Championships Trials in Tallahassee, Fla. Bonuchi and Stanley recorded a two-round score of 829.23 to finish 13.74 points ahead of the second-place team.

Bonuchi already stands as Mizzou's most decorated swimming and diving student-athlete in program history, is an eight-time All-American for the Tigers. He earned finishes of third (1-meter), seventh (3-meter) and eighth (platform) at this year's NCAA Championships.
