Twelve Head to USATF Championships This Week

June 19, 2013

Columbia, Mo. - Twelve Tigers have one final stop in their season before hanging up the spikes for the summer: the USATF Championship in Des Moines, IA.  Five have qualified for the senior championships and seven for the junior championships, which will both be held in Drake Stadium through Sunday.

Seven freshman will kick off the week for the black and gold, as Tony Carodine (triple jump), Tyler Rusboldt (3k Steeplechase), Shannon Hall (3k Steeplechase), Markesh Woodson (100m), Jordan Cook (5k), Evan Chiplock (5k), and Dan Roe (5k) hit the track in their respective events.  Also highlighting Thursday's full day of competition is senior Laura Roxberg in the 1500m, who returns to the track for one final go-around after her Honorable Mention All-American finish at the NCAA Championships two weeks ago.

Friday will feature another one of the freshman qualifiers, as Tyler Schneider hits the track for the 10k run.  Schneider is wrapping up a successful debut season at Mizzou after earning two SEC Freshman of the Week honors and a spot on the Freshman All-SEC list during the cross country season.

Sophomore Kearsten Peoples is also returning to competition after her NCAA Championships performance in the shot put, earning First Team All-American with her sixth place finish in the shot put.  She is joined by fellow-sophomore Jill Rushin in the competition on Friday.

Finishing out the final meet of the year is senior Malcolm Pennix, who will take the runway once more in the long jump after an Honorable Mention finish at the NCAA Championships.

The Tigers will face off against the top American track & field athletes for spots on Team USA as they travel to the summer's Championship meets.  The IAAF World Championships will take place August 10 - August 18 in Moscow, Russia, and the Pan American Junior Championships will be August 23 - August 25 in Medellin, Colombia.
