Columbia, Mo. -
Missouri Golf is back in postseason play under head coach Mark Leroux as the No. 29-ranked Tigers (Golfstat.com) were selected to participate in the 2013 NCAA Columbus, Ohio, Regional, held May 16-18 at the Scarlet Course hosted by Ohio State University.
Mizzou enters the event as the No. 5 seed in the Columbus Regional. The top five teams from each of the six NCAA Regionals will advance to play at the 2013 NCAA Championships, May 28 - June 1, at the Capital City Club's Crabapple Course in Atlanta, Ga.
It's the 11th NCAA Regional appearance for Mizzou and fifth under Leroux. It is also the third time in four years that the Tigers have advanced to postseason play as a team. Jace Long and Emilio Cuartero participated as individuals in the NCAA Regional last year. Long of course won the 2011 NCAA Southeast Regional title as a sophomore and advanced to the NCAA Tournament as an individual.
"I am really excited for our team and just really proud of the way they have competed all season long," Head Coach Mark Leroux said. "Obviously there is a great field in Columbus, but our guys will go in with a lot of confidence with the goal of making it to Atlanta."
Mizzou last advanced to NCAA finals play in 2005, earning a 16th place national finish overall. Missouri will be one of 13 teams competing in the Columbus Regional. New Mexico is the top seed followed by Stanford and SEC powers Auburn and South Carolina. South Carolina finished second at the 2013 SEC Championships and Auburn was third. Missouri finished seventh overall in that event and knocked off five nationally-ranked programs in the process.
