COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou (5-7) took advantage of a solid pitching performance from Griffin Goodrich in a 14-4 home victory over Truman State on Wednesday (March 13) afternoon at Taylor Stadium. Goodrich went four innings, fanning a career-high five batters, and allowing only three hits while throwing 41 strikes on 57 pitches while earning his first collegiate win. The win improves the Tigers to 5-1 at home this season as they prepare to welcome No. 5 South Carolina to Taylor Stadium for the SEC opener.

Scott Sommerfeld and Josh Lester tied for the team lead in the game with three RBI apiece in the contest, combining to go 3-for-4 with two runs on the day. Jake Ivory added two RBI of his own, going 1-for-3 and scoring two runs in the contest. Catcher Dylan Kelly's hitting streak came to an end after seven games, though he did score a run in the contest and extended his on-base streak to nine games.

Goodrich fanned two of the first three batters he faced, and Mizzou scored on a two-out double to right by Dane Opel to bring home Case Munson for a 1-0 lead into the second. The Bulldogs got their first hit of the game in a scoreless second from Goodrich, and the game went to the third with one run separating the teams.

Truman State put two on in the third with back-to-back singles but failed to push a run across. Kendall Keeton reached second to lead off the bottom of the frame, and three straight walks brought home a run for a 2-0 score. A single by Lester pushed two more across for a 4-0 lead after three.

Goodrich threw a 1-2-3 fourth as both teams went scoreless. Ryan Phillips entered to pitch the fifth, and he sat down two batters looking in the perfect frame. Opel singled to lead off the bottom of the fifth and Sommerfeld walked, and Lester stroked a double to put Mizzou up 5-0. Ivory singled to left to bring home two more runs, and a single by Kendall Keeton made it 8-0. Keaton Steele's pinch-hit single brought home two more for a 10-0 lead, and Sommerfeld gave Mizzou a 12-run lead after five.

Truman State scored in the 6th, pushing across two runs against Phillips to make the score 12-2. Mizzou tacked on a run in the bottom of the inning as Ivory came around to score after leading off the frame by wearing a pitch. Peter Fairbanks took over on the mound for the Tigers in the seventh and threw a perfect 1-2-3 inning. The Tigers added another run in bottom of the seventh pushing the lead to 14-2 despite going hitless in the frame.

John Miles entered to pitch in the eighth and allowed two unearned runs to make the score 14-4. After Mizzou went down scoreless in the eighth, Breckin Williams was perfect in the ninth.

Mizzou takes on No. 5 South Carolina in its first SEC baseball series this weekend. Promotions for the Friday (March 15) night contest include pregame fireworks and free t-shirts for the first 500 fans. The game will start at 6 p.m. For the latest in Mizzou baseball, follow the team on Twitter (@MUTigerBaseball) or check in to MUTigers.com.
