Junior Sam Tierney won three events during Mizzou's two-day meet against Kentucky and SIU

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Mizzou men's swimming and diving team swept both Kentucky and host Southern Illinois in a two-day tri-meet Thursday and Friday, Oct. 24-25 in Carbondale, Ill. The Tigers posted a 333-106 win over the Salukis and a 267-5-177-5 victory over the Wildcats.

Missouri won 15 of 24 total events over the two days, led by junior Sam Tierney's three wins and two apiece from senior David Bonuchi, sophomore Max Grodecki and freshman Michael Chadwick.

The Tigers got the second day started with a first-place showing in the 200 medley relay. Mizzou's A team of Tierney, junior Igor Kozlovskij, senior Logan Mosley and Grodecki swam a 1:31.70 to take the win, while the B team of junior Austin Fish, senior Mark Conroy and freshmen Andrew Sansoucie and Chadwick took third with a time of 1:32.91.

Tierney claimed his third win of the event with a first-place showing in the 200 breast (2:02.11). He earned wins in both the 100 breast and 100 back in Thursday action.

In the diving well, Bonuchi added to his win in Thursday's 1-meter with a victory on the 3-meter on Friday. The senior scored 396.80 to take first, ahead of teammate sophomore Clark Thomas, who was second with 358.35. Thomas' tally was just six points away from his career best.

Grodecki placed first in Friday's 100 free event as he touched the wall in 45.81, joining his 50 free win from Thursday. Grodecki just beat Mosley, who took second in the 100 free in 45.99.

Junior Andrew Phillips secured his first career event title as he swam a 1:50.21 in the 200 fly to take top honors.

In the 200 IM, Kozlovskij lead a one-two-three Tiger finish after a swim of 1:52.49. Junior Mack Darragh placed second (1:53.31), while Chadwick took third (1:53.86).

The Tigers return to the pool on Friday, Nov. 1 when the team hosts Texas A&M at 4 p.m. at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
