Mizzou Opens Season With Show-Me Showdown Win

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou men's swimming and diving team claimed the eighth annual Show-Me Showdown to open the 2012-13 season Friday afternoon at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. The Tigers scored 630 points on the day to finish first among eight different Missouri schools.

Missouri State came in second with 584 points, followed by Drury in third (453), Lindenwood in fourth (280.5), Missouri S&T in fifth (248), Washington University in sixth (110.5), Truman State in seventh (286) and William Jewell in eighth (59).

Sophomore Mack Darragh and freshman diver Clark Thomas were both double winners during the meet to lead the Tigers. Darragh won the 200 IM with a 1:53.41 and the 100 fly in a time of 50.23. Thomas swept both the 1 and 3-meter diving events with scores of 337.40 and 297.85, respectively.

The Tigers opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay, as the team of sophomore Sam Tierney, junior Mark Conroy, senior John Krause and sophomore Ramom Melo swam a time of 1:30.68.

Darragh's was followed by two Tigers in the 200 IM, as sophomore Igor Kozlovskij came in second in 1:54.03 and Tierney claimed third in a 1:54.37.

Sophomore Eegan Groome helped the Tigers sweep the top three spots in the 500 free after he finished in first with a time of 4:34.59. Freshman Daniel Graviss finished in second in the event with a time of 4:36.91, while sophomore Andrew Phillips was third in 4:37.30.

Conroy earned Missouri's final swimming event of the day as he finished first in the 100 breast in 56.86.

Mizzou swept the top three spots in the 200 IM, as sophomore Mack Darragh bested the field with a 1:53.41 in the event. Sophomores Igor Kozlovskij and Tierney came in second and third with times of 1:54.03 and 1:54.37, respectively.

Mizzou returns to the pool on Saturday, Oct. 20 when the team hosts Missouri State at 2 p.m. at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
