Mizzou Sweeps Kentucky and SIU

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou men's swimming and diving team claimed 14-of-16 event titles as the squad posted wins over Kentucky and SIU Southeastern Conference opener Friday afternoon in the at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. The Tigers defeated Kentucky 205-93 and SIU 229-67.

Junior diver David Bonuchi, and sophomores Mack Darragh, Eegan Groome and Sam Tierney all recorded two event wins during the meet. Bonuchi once again claimed the 1 and 3-meter dives with scores of 377.65 and 392.05, respectively. Darragh took home the 200 fly with a time of 1:49.31 and the 200 IM after a swim of 1:52.63. Groome was victorious in the 200 free (1:40.38) and the 500 free (4:31.60). Tierney won both the 100 back and 200 breast with times of 48.66 and 2:01.24, respectively.

The Tigers opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay, as the team of sophomore Sam Tierney, junior Mark Conroy, senior John Krause and sophomore Ramom Melo clocked a time of 1:29.63. Mizzou's `B' team of senior Joe Hladik, sophomore Igor Kozlovskij, senior Ryan Sellers and freshman Max Grodecki came in second with a time of 1:31.63.

Freshman Daniel Graviss swam a 9:28.22 in the 1000 free to claim first, while Groome finished second in 9:32.18.

Conroy led a one-two-three sweep for the Tigers in the 100 breast as the junior finished in first with a time of 55.84. Kozlovskij came in second-place in 56.57 and senior Jowan Qupty was third in 56.81.

Grodecki swam 45.83 in the 100 free to finish in first place. He was followed by Melo, who had a time of 46.40 to come in second. Melo earned an event title of his own in the 50 free, as he swam a 20.85.

In the 200 back, senior John Higgins claimed first with a swim of 1:49.66, followed by Fish in second in 1:51.65.

Freshman Clark Thomas earned second-place honors in the 3-meter dive with a score of 323.85.

Mizzou hits the road for the first time this season on Friday, Nov. 9 for a 2 p.m. CT clash with No. 9 Georgia
