COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou track and field team wrapped up day one of its 2011 outdoor season home-opener - the Missouri Relays - on Friday (April 1) at Audrey Walton Stadium and got several notable performances, particularly in the throws events. Freshman Kearsten Peoples (Ottawa, Kan.) won the women's hammer throw at 52.83m as she was one of three event winners for Mizzou on the day.

Staying in the women's hammer throw, the Tigers took five of the top six spots in the event. Megan Collins (Lee's Summit, Mo.) took third at 51.56m (169-2), Melissa Coil (Clark, Mo.) was fourth at 51.55m (169-1) while Laura Greenfield (Liberty, Mo.) and Cortni Ervin (Clark, Mo.) took fifth and six with marks of 49.14m (161-2) and 48.92m (160-6), respectively. Chris Holly (Topeka, Kan.) and Jacob Bullinger (Jackson, Mo.) led the men in the hammer throw with tosses of 59.28m (194-6) and 52.35m (171-9), placing third and fourth, respectively.

Staying in the field events, plenty of Tigers saw success in their events. Freshman Erika Miller (Mexico, Mo.) claimed the women's long jump title after measuring in at 5.47m (17-11 ½) while classmate Camille Hayes (Indianapolis, Ind.) jumped 1.64m (5-4 ½) to take home second in the women's high jump. Tucker Bounds (Columbia, Mo.) placed second in the men's long jump at 6.91m (22-8) and freshman Hailey Twietmeyer (Cheney, Kan.) also earned a runner-up nod in the javelin after tossing 42.06m (138-0). Asa Wyatt (Poplar Bluff, Mo.), an NCAA qualifier in the javelin last season, led the Tiger men with a third-place nod after measuring in at 53.73m (176-3).

Mizzou also had a great day in the men's pole vault as Tigers occupied the top three spots, highlighted senior All-American Brian Hancock (Monroe City, Mo.), who cleared 4.90m (16-0 ¼). Matthew Krogman (Brookfield, Wis.) took second at 4.60m (15-1) and Kyle Wessel (Hannibal, Mo.) took third at 4.45m (14-7 ¼).

Moving to the short track, three Tigers turned in runner-up places, highlighted by freshman Tre Chambers (Colorado Springs, Colo.) who took second in the men's 200 after clocking in at 21.56. He was the top collegiate runner in the event as Nike's Ivory Williams won the event with a time of 21.22. Sierra Gant (Wichita, Kan.) placed second in the women's 200m dash as well, clocking in at 24.91. In the women's 100m hurdles, Leslie Farmer (Jefferson City, Mo.) clocked in at 14.71 to take home runner-up honors as well.

Hayden Legg (Mexico, Mo.) took fourth in the men's 3,000m steeplechase after clocking in at 9:40.47. Eden Slater (Stoneboro, Pa.) also placed fourth in the women's 5,000m run with a time of 18:21.62 to round out the day for the Tigers.
