COLUMBIA, Mo. - University of Missouri senior guard Marcus Denmon was named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team, the league announced on Thursday. Additionally, junior Ricardo Ratliffe and senior Laurence Bowers were preseason honorable mentions selections, although Bowers will miss the upcoming season after suffering a knee injury earlier in the week.
The Big 12 selection marks the second preseason honor for Denmon in the last few days as he was named to the Wooden Award watch list on Monday.
Denmon is coming off a career year in 2010-11, when he earned All-Big 12 first team accolades. The Hogan Prep High School product averaged 16.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.8 steals per game. He led the Tigers in scoring, 3-point field goals (82) and 3-point field goal percentage (.448) while ranking among the top 10 in the Big 12 in scoring (seventh), field goal percentage (fifth), steals (third), 3-point percentage (second) and 3-point makes per game (fifth). Overall the senior guard started 33-of-34 games and reached double figures in 30 contests, topping 20 points 12 times. He also shot 50 percent from the floor for the year, the highest for a Missouri guard since Rickey Paulding in 2001-02.
Overall Denmon is part of a senior class (Bowers, Kim English, Steve Moore and Jarrett Sutton) that has won 77 games in its first three seasons in Black & Gold. That impressive run is highlighted by three consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament, a 2009 Big 12 Championship and Elite Eight appearance along with a 51-3 record inside Mizzou Arena.
