Football Closes Camp With Mini Scrimmage

March 25, 2010

Columbia, Mo. -

The University of Missouri football team held its final practice prior to spring break Thursday afternoon inside the Dan Devine Indoor Pavilion, and the Tigers held a short scrimmage to wrap things up.

In very limited action, the Tiger defense won its second straight scrimmage of the spring, claiming a 23-18 win over the offense.  The defense grabbed three interceptions, one each by senior CB Kevin Rutland, freshman LB Tony Randolph, and freshman CB Tyler Davis.  Rutland and Randolph had interceptions for the second consecutive scrimmage.

Senior DT Bart Coslet was disruptive on the day, as he got free for a pair of quarterback sacks to lead the way, while DE Aldon Smith, DT George White and DE Gabe McCrary also had one sack apiece.

Senior TB Derrick Washington continued his strong spring camp by leading the way with 31 rushing yards on 7 attempts, and he scored the sole touchdown of the scrimmage from 2 yards out during two-minute drill work.  Also leading the way offensively was junior QB Blaine Gabbert, who was an efficient 12-of-16 on the day for 85 yards.  Junior WR Jerrell Jackson led all receivers with 5 catches (37 yards), while junior TE Michael Egnew had 3 receptions for a scrimmage-best 37 yards.

The Tigers will be off for spring break after the conclusion of classes Friday afternoon.  They'll return to campus the following weekend, with the next practice scheduled for Tuesday, April 6th.  They'll have six more practices after they return, which will lead up to the annual Black & Gold Spring Game, set for Saturday, April 17th at 1 p.m. at Memorial Stadium/Faurot Field.

Here's a recap of the stats taken from Thursday's scrimmaging…
