Looking to stave off Kansas, the Missouri women's swimming and diving team wrapped up the 2010 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships in strong fashion with a third place finish.
Texas A&M won the title with 1002 points, followed by Texas with 903 points, Missouri with 484 points, Kansas with 416 points, Iowa State with 338 points and Nebraska with 261 points.
One of three seniors in their last conference meet had one of the best races of her life, placing third in the 200 fly in 1:58.33. She sunk the former record by close to two seconds, and moved from fifth all-time to first.
Gordon jumped up to fourth all time in the event after finishing the preliminaries in 1:59.99 to make the championship heat of the event later in the night.
After another solid morning in the pool, Kim Jasmer had her eye on Lori Halverson's 100 free mark, coming close to breaking it. And in the championship heat of the event, Jasmer finished fourth in the race in 49.26 setting the new school record.
Stephanie Rovig and Lisa Nathanson finished in 14th and 15th place in the consolation race of the 100 free, clocking in at 51.05 seconds and 51.10 seconds, respectively
Jasmer won her heat in 49.67 seconds to be one of the top four swimmers in the championship round, and moved into second all time in the event when she finished.
Christina Gailey added to her trophy collection with a school-record second place finish in the platform diving competition. Gailey finished with 302.80 points grabbing the silver, while Abby Zepeda finished seventh with 231.15 points in the finals.
The 400 free relay team of Jasmer, Gordon, Rovig and Nathanson came in third in 3:19.80, placing the team third all-time in school history.
In the 200 back finals, Dominique Bouchard and Lauren Lavigna finished seventh and eighth in the championship heat, finishing in 1:55.57 and 1:56.54, respectively. Brigette Selbert also scored points for the team in the event, finishing the consolation race in 2:03.84.
Bouchard and Lavigna were battling head-to-head next to each other in the prelims, with Bouchard pulling away strong late to finish first in the heat in 1:55.15 to break the school record, while Lavigna finished in 1:57.03.
Rachel Ripley finished seventh in the 200 breast finals, clocking in at 2:16.82. Ripley's preliminary ended with a second place finish, clocking in at 2:16.31, moving her into a tie for fifth place all time with Morgan McCleery.
Missouri will now prepare for the NCAA Zone Diving competition and NCAA Championships in March.
