The University of Missouri tennis team (3-3) defeated Saint Louis University (5-3) 6-1, handing Saint Louis their third loss of the season, and halting a five match win streak for the Billikens.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead by winning two of the three doubles matches. Sophomore Jamie Mera and freshman Maria Christensen defeated Jenny Nalepa and Mia Elmore 9-8 (5) at No. 2, while freshman Andrea Lewis and Kansas City native Kristen Bleakley downed Kasia Tomalak and Sarah Septien 8-1 at No. 3. Mallory Weber and Kaitlyn Ritchie were edged 9-8 (2) by Hailee Elmore and Casey Miller at No. 1.
In singles play, Missouri took five straight set victories. Weber exited the court first for the Tigers, securing a 6-0, 6-3 win over SLU's Sarah Septien at No. 3 singles, and earning the Tigers' second point of the night. At No. 2, Ritchie defeated SLU's Miller 6-1, 6-1.
Elsewhere, Christensen won her fourth match of the season, defeating M. Elmore, 6-2, 6-3, to earn the Tigers fourth point of the night and clinch the win. Two more Tiger victories came at No. 5 and No. 6 singles as Lewis, and junior Maureen Modesto bested their opponents, 6-0, 6-2, and 6-2, 6-0, respectively.
In the last match to finish, Atlantic 10 Conference player of the week, junior H. Elmore, extended her seven match win streak, escaping with a 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (3) win at No. 1 singles over Tampa, Fla. native Mera.
The Tigers will return to action this weekend in two home matches as they take on Louisville Friday, Feb. 26 at 5 p.m., and No. 26 Southern Methodist on Feb. 28 at 10 a.m.
