AMES, Iowa - The Mizzou track and field program concluded day one at the Iowa State Classic on Friday (Feb. 12) and received several notable performances, highlighted by the women's distance medley relay team. With a time of 11:27.30, the relay team claimed the event title and just missed the NCAA provisional standard of 11:26.50 in the event. The foursome, comprised of Laura Roxberg (Overland Park, Kan.), Leslie Farmer (Jefferson City, Mo.), Shannon Leinert (Eureka, Mo.) and Angela Potrykus (Evergreen, Colo.), now owns the Big 12's third-best time this season, trailing only Texas Tech and Baylor. The Tigers won the event by 14 seconds over the next closest competitor, a squad from Wichita State.

Lana Mims (Tulsa, Okla.) also had a fine performance in the women's long jump as she turned in a third-place finish in the event. Mims leaped 5.84m (19-2) to earn the top-three finish amongst a field of 41 athletes. The mark is her fourth-best of the season. Shawnte Middlebrook (Lee's Summit, Mo.) earned 17th overall in the event after leaping 5.40m (17-8 ¾). Freshman Tucker Bounds (Columbia, Mo.) also turned in a nice performance in the long jump for the Tiger men as he placed eighth after measuring in at 7.03m (23-0 ¾), despite fouling in his final three attempts. That leap is a personal-best for the Tiger freshman and his mark is also the second-best by a Tiger in 2010.

Former Tiger and current volunteer assistant coach Chris Rohr (Lee's Summit, Mo.) tossed an event-winning toss of 23.08m (75-6 3/4) in the weight throw to round out the day. He was competing as an unattached competitor. With the throw, Rohr tentatively ranks eighth in the nation in the event. Megan Collins (Lee's Summit, Mo.) was the Tiger women's top finisher in the weight throw, turning in a personal-best toss of 16.61m (54-6) to earn 18th overall in a field that included 71 throwers. Three other Tiger throwers placed in the top 25, highlighted by Cortni Ervin (Marshall, Mo.) who placed 23rd with a throw of 16.33m (53-7). Melissa Coil (Clark, Mo.) placed 24th after measuring in at 16.19m (53-1 ½) while Laura Greenfield (Liberty, Mo.) placed 25th at 15.84m (51-11 ¾).

High jumper Stacy Swineburg (Camdenton, Mo.) placed fourth in the non-seeded women's high jump after clearing 1.58m (5-2 ¼) to begin the Tigers' day in the field events. Heather Green (Jefferson City, Mo.) highlighted the seeded pole vault as she cleared 3.65 (11-11 3/4), finishing 14th. Both Abbie Garlcih (Lee's Summit, Mo.) and Holly Stewart (Lee's Summit, Mo.) had fine performances in the women's non-seeded pole vault as well, placing ninth and 16th, respectively, in a field of 28.

On the men's side, the ISU Classic featured 22 heats of the 200m dash, and the Tigers once again turned in a fine performances in the event. Jerron Forte (Kansas City, Mo.) finished in the top half after clocking in at 22.39, a season-best by any Tiger in 2010. Bounds and Matt Pickerel (Columbia, Mo.) also competed in the event, clocking in at 22.59 and 22.61, respectively.

Max Storms (Kansas City, Mo.), who was competing unattached, won his heat of the 5,000m run after clocking at 15:05.11. Teammate Tyler Compton (Buffalo, Mo.) also ran unattached in the race and placed second behind Storms in 15:17.45. Those times ranked ninth and 14th, respectively, in the overall standings.
