With nine victories Saturday afternoon in their first meet of the new year, the Missouri men's swimming and diving team defeated Missouri S&T 154-103 at the Mizzou Aquatics Center.
"We raced against a very good team today, and I think our guys did a solid job overall," head coach Brian Hoffer said. "We trained before the meet today, so I know our guys were drained, but they gave a great effort."
Mizzou swept the top three spots in the 200 free race, led by Yaniv Shnaider's 1:42.57 first place finish, Jeff Hendrick's 1:44.10 second place finish and Ethan Rose's 1:44.59 third place finish.
In the 100 back, Jan Konarzewski won the 100 back race, clocking in at 49.73 seconds, with Ryan Sellers coming in second in 50.90 seconds and John Higgins in third in 52.06 seconds.
Konarzewski then took the 200 back event, claiming the top spot in 1:50.32, with Higgins finishing second in 1:53.64.
Spenser Lauver bested Missouri S&T's Andrew Trowbridge for the 500 free title, clocking in at 4:38.92, while Vito Cammisano finished third in 4:44.21.
Michael Lopresti earned the top spot in the 100 breast, finishing the race in 57.74 seconds, while Joe Hladik finished third in 58.61 seconds.
Jordan Hawley and Anders Melin finished in the one-two in the 50 free event, with Hawley edging out Melin by .28 seconds, 21.09 to 21.37 seconds.
Hawley won his second individual race of the day in the 100 free, clocking in at 46.57 seconds, just ahead of Cameron Sellers, who finished second in 47.82 seconds.
Melin earned a win of his own in the 100 fly, besting teammate Ryan Sellers 50.37 seconds to 51.40 seconds
The Tigers began the day taking the top two spots in the men's 200 medley relay, as the team of Konarzewski, Hladik, Melin, and Hawley clocked in at 1:32.68, while the team of Higgins, Lopresti, Kerwick and Cameron Sellers finished second in 1:34.78.
Cammisano finished second in the 1000 free, hitting the pad in 9:47.90, with Eric Blue finishing fourth in 10:01.21.
Lauver was the highest finisher in the 200 fly event, hitting the pad in 1:54.88, while Cameron Sellers, and Kerwick finished third and fourth.
Shnaider and Lopresti finished second and third in the 200 breast race, with Shnaider finishing in 2:07.80 and Lopresti in 2:08.72 in the event.
The Tiger men and women's swimming and diving teams will return to the pool next week, hosting Minnesota and Arkansas at the Mizzou Aquatic Center Saturday at 11 a.m.
