May 17, 2009

Box Score

COLUMBIA, Mo.- - Missouri concluded the regular season by picking up an 8-5 win over Cal State-Bakersfield on Sunday at Taylor Stadium in the final game of the regular season. MU finishes the regular season with a record of 32-23.

The Tigers had to come from behind on Sunday, as Cal State-Bakersfield jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings. However, Mizzou scored seven runs between the fifth and sixth innings to overtake the Roadrunners.

The Tigers tied it with a four-run bottom of the fifth, which included a two-run single by junior Greg Folgia. Senior Kyle Mach tripled to open the sixth inning and senior Steve Gray followed with a double to drive in Mach. Sophomore Ryan Ampleman then connected on an RBI single to score Gray.

Each team plated runs in the eighth to make it an 8-5 final.

Mach had three hits for the second-straight game and extended his hitting streak to 15 games. The streak is the longest by a Tigers since James Boone and Lee Laskowski each reached safely in 16-straight games in 2004.

Senior Ian Berger took the win after three innings of work in relief to improve to 3-3 on the season. Sophomore Brad Buehler recorded the final two outs to earn his seventh save of the season, which ties him for seventh all-time for saves in a season at Missouri.

Next up for Mizzou is the Big 12 Championship, which will get underway on Wednesday in Oklahoma City. The pairings and brackets for the tournament will be released later tonight.
