Mizzou Edges Sooners in Series Finale

COLUMBIA, Mo. - - Mizzou closed its three-game series with No. 10 Oklahoma by taking a 5-4 win on Sunday at Taylor Stadium.

Missouri (15-16, 5-7 Big 12) scored all five of its in the bottom of the second inning, highlighted by a two-run single by junior Aaron Senne and an RBI double off the bat of junior Greg Folgia. Folgia was 3-for-4 on the day.

Sophomore Rex Meyr also drove in a run in the second inning on a single and senior Ryan Lollis picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Only one of the Tigers' five runs was earned as an error by the Sooners allowed the inning to continue.

Oklahoma (25-7, 6-3) put a run across the plate in the third inning when Chris Elliot homered. The Sooners added a run in the fifth and scored twice in the top of the seventh inning, which included a lead off home run by Garrett Buechele.

OU threatened to add more runs in the late innings, but the Mizzou bullpen came through in the clutch. Sophomore Tyler Clark came on in relief with two on and two outs in the seventh and struck out Bryant Hernandez to end the inning. The Sooners again put the tying run on base in the eighth, but sophomore Phil McCormick came out of the bullpen to strike out Trey Sperring for the final out of the inning.

Sophomore Brad Buehler pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his third save of the season. Senior Scooter Hicks also pitched 0.2 scoreless innings in relief. Combined, the Tiger bullpen did not give up a run and allowed just two hits in three innings of work.

MU starter Nick Tepesch struck out nine in six innings pitched, allowing four runs on six hits. He took the win to move to 2-2 on the season.

The Tigers will host Minnesota this week in a two-game midweek series, which will open at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Game two of the series is set for 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Next weekend, Missouri will travel to Waco, Texas for a three-game series with Baylor.
