No. 14 Mizzou took a 2-0 lead in its weekend series with Kansas State with an 11-7 win on Saturday at Taylor Stadium. Six Tigers had multiple hits in the game including junior Ryan Lollis, sophomore Aaron Senne and senior Jacob Priday, who each had three hits.
Sophomore Kyle Gibson took the win on the mound, improving to 7-1 on the year. He allowed three runs on six hits, striking out five and walking none in seven innings pitched.
Junior Scooter Hicks recorded the last two outs of the game to pick up the save for the second-straight game. He now has five saves on the year and is tied for sixth in the MU record books with 11 career saves.
After Kansas State put up a run in top of the first inning, the Tigers scored eight unanswered runs starting with a two-run bottom of the first, which included an RBI triple by Priday and a single from sophomore Trevor Coleman which drove in Priday.
Mizzou (31-15, 11-9 Big 12) added three in the second inning on a two-run basehit from Lollis and an RBI double off the bat of Senne.
The Tigers put up another three spot in the fifth inning, scoring all three runs on back-to-back doubles from junior Kyle Mach and sophomore Greg Folgia.
Kansas State (21-25, 6-14) would score two runs in each of the last three innings, including two-run home runs from Drew Biery in the seventh and Jason King in the eighth inning.
The Tigers put together a third three-run inning in the bottom of the eighth, as two runs scored on Senne's second home run in two games and another run scoring on a sacrifice fly by junior Steve Gray. The homer by Senne was his 11th of the year.
Senne was 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBI on the afternoon. Lollis finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and scored a pair of runs and Priday was 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Mizzou will look to complete a sweep of Kansas State on Sunday. First pitch for the series finale is set for 1 p.m. at Taylor Stadium with junior Rick Zagone scheduled to take the mound for the Tigers.
