PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The 20th-ranked Missouri men's swimming and diving team (6-1, 1-0 Big 12) left the pool, Friday, leading in three of its four duals in Pittsburgh, Pa. The Tigers lead Maryland, Pittsburgh and Villanova, and trail Penn State by a slim 87-77 margin heading into Saturday's final day of action.
"The guys raced hard today," said Tiger Head Coach Brian Hoffer. We're in the hunt in each of our matchups and it'll just be a matter of pulling it all together tomorrow.
Sophomore Dylan Lynn was the Tigers' lone winner on the day. The Tulsa, Okla., native clocked a 4:02.62 to earn the win in the 400 IM.
In the 100 fly, junior Gilad Kaufman was edged coming down the stretch, touching the wall in a runner-up time of 50.33.
The Tigers unleashed for a number of third-place finishes on Friday. Sophomore Greg DeStephen rounded out the top-three of the 3-meter diving competition with his score of 303.75, while classmate Ryan Meeker took fifth with a score of 255.80.
Freshman Spenser Lauver swam a solid time of 16:01.81 to take third in the 1650 free. The Nebraskan was edged for the second spot by just .25 seconds. Redshirt freshman Cameron Sellers captured fourth in the race in a time of 16:11.12.
Claiming the third spot in the 100 back was senior co-captain Travis Floyd. The Midland, Texas, native touched in a time of 51.12, just .08 seconds behind the runner-up finisher.
Also finishing third, Friday, was sophomore Martin Cernansky. The Austrian clocked a 57.53 in rounding out the top-three of the 100 breast. Junior Ted Harris finished fifth in a time of 58.95.
In relay action, the Tiger quartet of Floyd, Cernansky, Kaufman and freshman Jordan Hawley combined for a runner-up finish in the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:32.57. The 200 free relay team of Hawley, Kaufman, sophomore Joe Wiedemeier and Lynn followed suit, totaling a time of 1:24.05 in their second-place finish.
The Tigers head right back to Pittsburgh's Trees Pool, Saturday, with diving action set to get underway at 9 a.m. ET and swimming beginning at 10 a.m. ET.
