Missouri Softball Team Drops Second Game to Memphis, 7-3

Feb. 11, 2007

Box Score

Baton Rouge, La. - The Missouri softball team (2-3) closed out its run at the eighth annual Easton Tiger Classic with a 7-3 loss to Memphis (4-1) in Tiger Park. Although the Tigers managed seven hits on the game, including doubles from senior second baseman Sarah Stringer (Auxvasse, Mo.) and senior third baseman Amanda Jo White (Tallmadge, Ohio), the Memphis Lady Tigers tallied nine hits and took advantage of two Missouri errors.

Freshman lefty Jana Hainey (Raymore, Mo.) fell to 0-2 on the season after allowing four earned runs on six hits in 5.1 innings of work. Hainey struck out four batters on the day. Junior St. Peters, Mo., native Jen Bruck entered the game in the sixth inning, striking out three of the six batters she faced.

Memphis held a 1-0 advantage for three innings after shortstop Heather Mott hit a one out home run in the bottom of the first inning. After Memphis added two runs in the fourth, Missouri was able to close the gap on the Lady Tigers, managing two runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Leading off the inning with a double to right center by eight-hole hitter White, shortstop Andee Allen (Barnhart, Mo.) was hit by pitch and awarded first base. Missouri returned to the top of the lineup where senior outfielder Leanne Bowers (Arnold, Mo.) struggled against pitcher Jenna Kubesch and was forced to the dugout after striking out. Next up for Missouri, Stringer crushed her first double of the season, a knock to left center, driving in both White and Allen. That same play, Stringer was tagged out at third on the throw from outfield. The inning came to a close after redshirt junior Micaela Minner (Sanger, Texas) singled to left field, and sophomore first baseman Amanda Renth (Mascoutah, Ill.) struck out swinging.

Missouri scored its final run of the game in the seventh inning. With one out on the board, freshman Julie Silver (Chesterfield, Mo.) pinch hit for junior Sara Simons (Kearney, Mo.). Silver singled in her second collegiate at bat and scored on Allen's single to right center.

The Tigers will return home for a Wednesday, Feb. 14, home opening doubleheader against UMKC held in the Dan Devine Pavilion. Game one will begin at 11 a.m. (CT), with game two slated for a 1 p.m. (CT) start. Live stats for both games will not be available due to no internet access within the Pavilion.
