Tigers Head North for Busy Two Days

Oct. 17, 2007

Columbia, Mo. - The Missouri Men's Swimming and Diving team will travel to Ames, Iowa for a busy two-day set beginning Thursday. The men will take on Texas A&M Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and jump right back into action at the Big 12 Relays Friday at 9 a.m. in Iowa State's Beyer Hall Pool.

Last Year's Matchup

The Tigers fell to the Aggies in a tight battle last year by a score of 151-147. The meet came down to the final race with Mizzou needing to capture the 400 free relay's top two spots to earn the dual win. Although the Tigers won the race, second place went to the Aggies. Overall, Mizzou captured seven events in the loss.

Relay Time

Mizzou finished in third place at last year's conference relay meet. The Tigers swam to runner-up finishes in six races, including the 400 and 800 free relays. In 2007-08 action, redshirt freshman Cameron Sellers, junior Gilad Kaufman, junior co-captain Jake Hoffmann and sophomore Dylan Lynn led Mizzou to victory in the 400 free relay at Saturday's Show Me Showdown.

Dylan Wynner

Dylan Lynn has come up big for his Mizzou squad in the young 2007-08 season. The sophomore recorded a win in the 200 free in the Tigers' season opener vs. Indiana and came back the following day for a victory in the 100 fly at the Show Me Showdown. He also swam to second-place finishes in the 500 free against the Hoosiers and in the 200 free in Saturday's Showdown. Last year against the Aggies, Lynn claimed top honors in both the 200 and 500 free.

Sophomore Sensation

Fellow sophomore Martin Cernansky has proven to be another go-to-guy for the Tigers. In Friday's meet vs. Indiana, Cernansky swam to a win in the 200 breast and followed that up with a runner-up finish in the 200 IM. Saturday proved just as successful for the Austrian, who got the win in the 100 breast and tallied second-place showings in the 50 breast and 200 IM. Like Lynn, Cernansky was a multiple-winner for the Tigers against Texas A&M last season, earning victories in the 200 breast and 200 IM.

Kaufin' Up a Win

Junior Gilad Kaufman has earned a mark in the winner's column this season as well. The Israeli won the 200 free at the Show Me Showdown in addition to finishing second in three events (50 free, 50 fly, 100 fly).

Floyd's Got Your (100) Back

Senior co-captain Travis Floyd has faired well in the 100 back. Floyd won the event last season against Texas A&M and repeated his first-place showing at this year's Show Me Showdown. He came in second in the 200 portion of the event against Indiana on Friday.

Jones'in for Another Win

Columbia native and Tiger freshman Dante Jones opened up his college career in a big way Friday against Indiana. Mizzou's newcomer dove to a win on the 1-meter board against a Hoosier squad that is traditionally among the nation's best when it comes to diving.

In Other Diving News

Senior David Boyko and sophomore Greg DeStephen have also tallied first-place scores for the Tigers in the diving well. In Saturday's Show Me Showdown action, Boyko led the Tigers to a win in the 1-meter diving scramble competition with DeStephen claiming victory on the 3-meter board.
