Final Stats

Lakeland, Fla. - The University of Missouri men's golf team is in ninth place after the first two rounds of the Matlock Collegiate Classic in Lakeland, Fla. Mizzou fired a total of 590 in the opening day of the tourney, which is being played at the Grasslands Golf and Country Club (Par 72, 7065 yards). The Tigers trail Virginia Tech for the eighth spot by three shots and are eight strokes out of the Top 5.

After finishing 39th last week at the Rice Intercollegiate, junior David Jenkins had his best round as a Tiger shooting 71 in the opening round and followed that up with a 74 in the second for a total of 145. That puts him in a tie for 18th heading into the final round tomorrow. Jenkins is just seven strokes off of the lead, which is owned by Old Dominion's Geoffrey Harris who shot a two-round total of 138 (-6), and four strokes out of the Top 5.

Senior Cory Ewert and junior Brandon Knaub both shot two-round totals of 148 and are currently tied for 31st. Ewert shot back-to-back rounds of 74 while Knaub rebounded from an opening-round 76 to shoot an even-par 72 in the second round. Freshman Chris Mabry is in 47th place after consecutive rounds of 75 for a total of 150 and senior Chris Happ rounds out the Tiger scoring with a total of 152, placing him in 56th heading into the final round.

The Tigers will finish up their second tournament of the spring on Tuesday in Lakeland and will be chasing Day 1-team leader Rollins College, who shot a team total of 578 (+2) through the opening two rounds.
